The Compound bow was first developed by Holless Wilber Allen in Missouri, and the US patent was grantd in 1969. Compared to other archery bows such as crossbows, recurve bows and longbows, the compound bow is the most popular type of hunting bow currently in use and is still considered a simple hunting devise in today's terms. The new 2011 compound bows from top manufacturers such as Diamond Archery, Martin, PSE Archery, and Quest Bowhunting by G5 will provide incredible performance including a lightweight, compact, and quiet bow at an affordable price.

Compound bows are constructed of 4 primary parts. The first part is the central riser which is the main part of the each bow. The riser is designed to be very stiff and is typically made of aluminum or magnesium. Archery bow accessories such as sights, stabilizers and quivers are mounted to the central riser. The second part of compound bows are the limbs which is manufactured with composite materials. Many beginners believe that the pulleys and cables are the primary place energy is stored when shooting compound or youth bows; however, all of the energy is actually stored in the limbs. In the most common configuration, there is a cam or wheel at the end of each limb. The cams and wheels are the third main part of the bow. There are several different concepts and designs for utilizing the cams to store energy in the limbs of the new compound bows. These all fall under a category called bow eccentrics. The four most common types of bow eccentrics are single cam, dual cam, binary cam, and hybrid cam. Strings and cables are the fourth component of each bow. These are the primary source for transferring energy from the bow to the arrows.

You will be pleased with our bow selection that includes the hottest bows for 2011. The archery compound bow is available in various sizes, shapes, colors, designs, and prices. We offer archery bows for people of all sizes, strengths, skill levels and shooting styles. If you're of smaller size or are looking to get a new hunter into the sport of bow hunting, check out our youth bows section where we offer a wide variety of compound bows for beginning archers.
